NHL ’94
“NHL ’94” on the Sega CD delivered an enhanced version of the iconic hockey game, building upon the success of its Genesis and Super NES counterparts. Developed by High Score Productions, this version aimed to leverage the Sega CD’s capabilities to provide a more immersive and feature-rich experience. The game maintained the series’ signature vertical camera angle and 2D sprite graphics, but incorporated improvements to audio and presentation.
The core gameplay of “NHL ’94” centered on fast-paced and action-oriented hockey simulation. Players could choose from all 24 NHL teams of the 1993-94 season, including the new expansion teams. The Sega CD version included features like “one-timers” and manual goalie control, adding depth to the gameplay. While the Sega Genesis version removed fighting, the Sega CD version focused on enhanced audio and presentation, which was a big selling point for the console at the time.
